SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit Tuesday challenging the state of Utah's immigration enforcement law, arguing that it usurps federal authority and could potentially lead to the harassment and detention of American citizens and authorized visitors.

I hope soon some of this immigration litigation makes it to the US Supreme Court. All of these different state laws are going to make things very confusing. Or maybe this will force some new legislation/regulations on immigration to bring some uniformity. One can only hope.

I'm sure the economy is a factor. Also, the general anti-immigrant attitudes including new state laws targeting undocumented workers.

LOS ANGELES -- At dawn on July 19, nearly 40 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Immigration (HSI) agents burst into the home home of Carmen Bonilla, 44. The agents were searching for "Robert" an alleged drug dealer, but ended up terrifying Bonilla and her son Michael, 16, daughter Josefina, 23, daughter-in-law Leticia, 28, and two of her granddaughters.
